The Knights of Columbus was founded by Fr. Michael McGivney in the 1880’s. His mission was to form a group of Catholic men at St. Mary’s Catholic church in New Haven, Connecticut to help support the church, widows, and orphans. His idea took hold and expanded. Today the Knights of Columbus not only support the church worldwide, but also operate a life insurance company with the highest ratings available and offer retirement programs all at affordable rates only to the membership. The Knights of Columbus have spread from New Haven to Canada, Mexico, Europe, and several other countries around the world. The Knights of Columbus have billions of dollars in force in the insurance programs they have set up for the members that choose to participate in the insurance program.
